Nicole Ari Parker was born in New York City. She is an American stage and film actress. The most well-known role she has played is in the role of Teri an ardent attorney Teri Jospehson on the Showtime TV series Soul Food. After her wedding, she is also known as Nikki Kodjoe. Her birthplace and childhood was in Baltimore Maryland. As young, she demonstrated an interest in acting and received the Top Actress Award in the Maryland High School Contest. Apart from her role at the theater and in the ballet company, she was also a part of 'The Washington Ballet Company.' She received an acting degree from New York University. Contractor was born at Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She had already experienced numerous travel experiences and other cultures since a young age. She attended boarding school in London from seven to nine years of age, and then her family moved to Toronto, Canada, where she lived for the bulk of her youth and early adulthood. Contractor trained and eventually became an expert in classical dancing in Toronto. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school which focuses on dance and theater. Contractor, who had been dancing for nearly ten years at that time, decided she was ready to focus on acting. As soon as she finished her high school education, she was awarded an entire scholarship to University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed an MA in Theatre, and also double majored with sociology and psychology. Contractor with a degree in sociology, having spent a year in university was invited to audition in an open audition for Pericles, at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadawhich she won the role. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 performances of Pericles. The conservatory in Stratford is home to eight males with four females, along with a couple of others for a weeks of crash courses. The role was secured for Contractor in the next play, and she landed Hermia's role as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
